Guaria Morada de Nueva York
Chang stenciled his hand with various layers of acrylic for the central motif. The handprint is considered one of the earliest forms of human art. It signifies the primal connection between the artist and the subject. The indigo evokes the Guaria Morada orchid of Costa Rica and the wooden pattern depicts the sugar maple tree of New York. With the tree rings, Chang recorded the heart’s journey through struggles and triumphs.
